Fig Tree Bay

Shallow, sandy and sheltered, with a small rock island close enough to swim to and back before lunch. It is the reason most families choose Protaras over Ayia Napa, and it is busy by ten in high summer.

See · Hilltop chapel · Protaras
A small whitewashed chapel on a rock above the town, reached by a long flight of steps. The climb is the point: the whole bay is below you, and it is the one place in Protaras worth being at sunset.

Do · Swimming cove · Protaras
A horseshoe cove in the pines between Protaras and Cape Greco, reached down a steep road and worth it. Clear, sheltered water, a single beach bar, and none of the frontage of the bigger beaches.

Stay · Family hotel · Protaras
Protaras is built for this: most of the hotels are a few minutes' walk from Fig Tree Bay, with pools for the hours when the beach is too hot. Book the bay end for the shortest walk with a pushchair.
