Top 10 restaurants in Paphos

Where we actually eat when we are down west: two in the old town worth booking a week ahead, a steakhouse, and a village taverna that will defeat you.

Paphos eats better than its seafront suggests. Almost everything worth the evening is a street back from it, in the old town, or fifteen minutes inland.

№ 01 · Old town

7 St. Georges Tavern

No menu. You sit down and dishes keep arriving — foraged greens, whatever the garden gave up that morning, their own wine. One sitting a night, so book.

№ 02 · Old town

Laona

A family taverna down a side street, cooking what a Cypriot household cooks. Lunch, mostly workers, and the best value in the city.

№ 03 · Cap St Georges

Phos

The fine dining option, on a cliff above the sea. Cypriot ingredients, modern technique, a menu that moves with the season.

№ 04 · Poseidonos Avenue

The Lodge

Charcoal-grilled, dry-aged steak, South African hands. The one to know when nobody wants another meze.

№ 05 · Minthis Resort

Amaracus

Twenty minutes inland and worth the drive for the terrace alone. Moussaka, taramas, whole snapper.

№ 06 · Paphos

Kingfisher Taverna

Fish, simply. Whatever came in that day, grilled, without a sauce to hide behind.

№ 07 · Above the town

Melitzia Taverna

A hillside terrace, the whole of Paphos underneath it and the sun going down behind. Meze, kleftiko, souvla.

№ 08 · Peyia village

Peyia Tavern

Village prices, village portions. Order the kleftiko and do not order a starter.

№ 09 · Paphos

Dias Zeus

Greek and Mediterranean, meze and fresh fish, as full of locals as of visitors.

№ 10 · Paphos

Passione

A wine bar that feeds you properly. Come for the list, stay for the small plates.
